About 3/4 of an inch long and reddish brown, the earwig is notable for the pincers extending behind it. These are used for defense and hunting. Generally a nuisance pest, earwigs also do damage to vegetables and flowers. The earwig is a nocturnal insect and is often found hiding in damp dark locations during the day.
